Aaron obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Masters in Business Administration. Prior to joining UQ Fire in early 2016, based in Costa Rica, Aaron took part of numerous consultancy Fire Safety projects with local and multi-national companies, afterwards leading his own Fire Safety Engineering practice. Aaron has over 10 years of experience in a wide range of Civil Engineering areas; more specifically, geotechnical, power generation, commercial construction, and fire protection.

Performance Assessment for Fire Safety and Structural Design of Structural Insulated Panels (SIP)

This research project is focused on lightweight sandwich panels, their structural behaviour and fire performance. Primary objective of his work is to determine the key properties and criterion that interact together from each of those two areas in order to optimize the design of said construction materials.  Structural Insulated Panels composed by two MGO-based boards with a EPS core manufactured by Vision Developments, a company based in Australia, will be used as study samples to study their reaction to flame and heat loads.  Ideally, in the long term, a model describing the general structural/fire performance of sandwich panels in general will be obtained, and an improved, more efficient product will be generated in cooperation with the partner company.
